The vessel is underway (downbound) on the Detroit River in fair weather. Railroad ferry docks can be seen along the Michigan shore in the left background area of the photo and the buildings of downtown Detroit are visible in the right background. The shadow of the Ambassador Bridge can be seen on the surface of the water immediately in front of the bow of the Fitzgerald.
