Negative, glass-plate. Monochromatic glass-plate negative from the studio of Louis James Pesha depicting the port side of the freighter JOHN W. GATES, under steam. A crew member stands at the bow, and another leans over on the main deck. A smaller boat is off the GATES's bow. A tree-lined shoreline is visible in the background. "Present" typewritten on the non-archival envelope which previously held the plate.
