Monochromatic glass-plate negative from the studio of Louis James Pesha depicting the starboard side of the Herman H. Hettler Lumber Company freighter HERMAN H. HETTLER, under steam with a deck-load of lumber. Several figures are on the flying bridge, another man stands below near the bow, and one two others stand outside of the aft cabin. Several buildings on a tree-lined shoreline is visible in the background. "#81263 - 789 gr. Bet. 1890 W. Bay City. Stranded 11/23/26 Grand Island, Lake Superior. Formerly WALTER VAIL. 210.0' x 84.7' x 13.2'," handwritten on non-archival envelope which previously housed plate.
