Negative, Glass-plate
Monochromatic glass-plate negative taken of springboard diver Mickey Riley performing a swan dive at the Detroit Boat Club's outdoor pool, representing the Los Angeles Athletic Club in a competition on June 21, 1928. Other swims and spectators are along the bleachers beside the diving board. Part of the club's docks on the Detroit River are visible in the background. The negative was previously housed in a non-archival envelope with the pre-printed return address, "H.W. Johns-Manville Co., 72 Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, Mich. Asbestos & Magnesia Products." A handwritten note along the right edge of the envelope read, "612, Mickey Riley, National 10-foot springboard diving champ, N on at Detroit Boat Club 6/23/28. He is doing swan dive. Represents Los Angeles A.C. Super Sensina F 4.5 1/480."
