Launching of the Ashtabula at St. Clair

Negative, glass-plate. Monochromatic glass plate negative from the studio of Louis James Pesha, entitled, "Launching of the Ashtabula at St. Clair." The photograph was taken off its starboard bow, from over the water, likely from a neighboring pier at Great Lakes Engineering Works. The railroad car ferry was side-launched--the ramp is on the left, the wave on the right, and aboard a crowd of people are bracing themselves.
