A landscaped area, the left side of the sculpture, and the left edge of a decorative white marble backdrop wall can be seen in the background. Newspaper racks for the Detroit News and Detroit Times, and various downtown office/commercial buildings are visible in the background. A man is walking toward the entrance of the City-County Building (now the Coleman S. Young Municipal Center) at the right edge of the image.
