Photograph, Cabinet
Cabinet card bearing a photograph of Ulysses S. Grant at Mt. McGregor seated on a porch, shortly before he died. "Grossman, Althon, Ills." is printed along the left edge of the card. Also included is a letter from Henry Wills to Isaac Bruce on Hoyt Metal Company of Saint Louis letterhead, dated September 8, 1885. Wills explains that he is sending the photograph to Bruce as a souvenir of Grant. The letter reads as follows:
Dear Mr. Bruce,
Thinking that you would appreciate the enclosed photo of General Grant - taken at Mt. McGregor 3 days before he died - I send you one of the few I have, trusting that it will be acceptable as a souvenir of a man who I think you admired during life.
With regards to yourself & family I remain
Very Resfy.
