Cabinet card bearing a sepia-toned photograph of a painted head-and-shoulders portrait of Col. Ebenezer Sproat. "Ebenezer Sproat. Born in Middleborough, Mass., 1752. Entered the Colonial Army as Captain, 1775. Major 10th Massachusetts. Colonel of one of the four regiments of Glover's Brigade. Brigade Inspector on Baron Steuben's staff. Married to Katharine Whipple. After the Revolution moved to the Northwest Territory, and assisted in founding the town of Marietta. Superintendent of Military Affairs in the Northwest Territory. Died in Marietta, Ohio, 1805. Photographed from miniature painted by Kosciusko, in possession of Miss Sarah Sibley, Detroit."
