Black and white photograph of John Christian Lodge being presented with a resolution marking his retirement from the Detroit Fire Fighters Commission by four men, including James L. Mahon on the far left. Lodge is seated in a chair with a blanket holding the framed resolution, as the other four gather around him. "The Detroit News, Detroit, Mich." is embossed in the lower right corner. The resolution reads:
It is with sincere feeling of regret that the news of Mr. Lodge's retirement from public office was received by the fire fighters of the city of Detroit.
We cannot, however, allow his retirement to pass without some mention of our gratitude for the wise and effective assistance he has given us for more than fourteen years.
During the trying days of organization, the dark days of depression and alter while setting wage and hour schedules, John C. Lodge was always the unheralded champion of the fire fighters.
We realize the great loss that will be sustained by us in being unable to [?] his wise counsel as well as his delightful [?] association at the city hall.
Our fondest hopes are for a speedy return to good health and years of hardy retirement for John C. Lodge, a great statesmen, wise parliamentarian, and unreproachable man.
