Print. Black and white photographic print of a window display at The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. A series of old, worn tires hang in the window display. Signage in the central foreground reads, "YOU Can Fight - WITH BONDS! American fighting men by the millions are expecting us at home to turn out tires and other war equipment and to BUY BONDS to the very limit. When you buy BONDS you are helping to pulverize the enemy - yet you make a sound investment and get your money back with interest." Also, smaller forms signage are visible on the left and right foregrounds of the window, they read from left to right, "Roll On to Victory! The tired displayed are evidence of the tremendous waste of equipment so necessary on the march to Victory. Replacement of these tires is up to you - Mr. and Mrs. Home Fronter - it's the WAR BONDS you buy that will keep our planes, our tanks, our guns, rolling on to Victory. That is our task - buy that extra WAR BOND now!" Also, central lower left signage reads, "Not a Merry Life, but a Very Short One... The life of all tires in the war zones is short, and replacements must be made. Red-hot shell fragments are hard on tires, .50 caliber machine gun bullets are hard on tires, so the tires shown here will make us understand why they are all so very scarce on the home front, also we will realize how necessary our WAR BONDS are to our fighting men... furnishing equipment they know how to use so well." Central right signage reads, "-Back From the Front - These battle-scarred tires have come from the war zones of Europe and Africa. Many have been blown to bits after a few hours, service by antiaircraft flack, others torn and shredded by land mines or machine-gun fire. The War Bonds you buy will help to replace these vitally needed tires, let's keep 'em rolling! Far right signage reads, "Included in this group are tires from enemy vehicles. They, too, are having replacement troubles but we have them on the run and groggy, it's up to us to keep them reeling back. The WAR BONDS you buy will prove to the men who gave their blood - and lives, that we, here on the home front will "keep 'em rolling." The date, photographic sequence number and photographer's name is printed on the bottom of the recto, "9-25-44; 19036; Davis B. Hillmer."
