Print. Black and white photographic print of a window display at the J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. A large mural of military vessels moving through ocean waters is featured affixed to the rear of the display, also a team of Merchant Marines work together on a large mounted artillery device. Two ventilation pipes are at the center of the display. The murals are flanked by two engine order telegraphs. Signage affixed to the larger of the two ventilation pipes reads, "Here's to the men of the Merchant Marine. They are the men manning the tankers and cargo ships - taking on the Nazi bombers and submarines as matter-of-factly as they take a trick at the wheel. Come hell or high water they get the cargoes through. 'It's in the bag,' say these first class fighting men. May 22nd is National Maritime Day, all honor to the men who sail the vessels of our great fleet." Images of merchant marines are visible in the lower foreground. Signage on the far right of the window features merchant marines and recruitment information. The date, and photographic sequence number are printed on the bottom of the recto, "5-22-44; 18955-2x."
