One color photograph showing a ship and railroad drawbridge collision on the Calumet River in South Chicago. The photo shows a starboard side view of the ocean-going vessel, Pontokratis, with the bent/broken structural beams of the Baltimore & Ohio Chicago Terminal railroad drawbridge lying across the stern superstructure of the ship. The collision occurred on the evening of May 6, 1988, when the bridge operator accidentally lowered the drawbridge onto the ship. The ship was under tow in the river at the time of the accident.
