Print. Black and white photographic print of a "Shell Torn Cyclone '14' Cylinder Aircraft Engine," on display at the J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. Neighboring signage reads, "And used in a twin engine American built Boston Bomber on the R.A.F. It was after a daylight raid on France, one of the engines already shot away, the bombardier and gunner killed at their posts and the pilot so badly wounded he died on landing that his 1600 horsepower engine despite serious and manifold damage it had experienced brought the plane back to a crash landing on a English airfield. Three shell holes are in the nose section, the ignition harness and cylinder head fins are riddled with machine gun bullets. One bullet went completely through the steel barrel of a cylinder. The supercharger housing in the rear of the engine was badly battered. One magneto was shot away. The WAR BONDS you buy will build more cyclones of this incredible quality." Images of the bomber are featured affixed to the wall behind the engine. A neighboring war bond purchase locale is visible adjacent to the exhibit. The photographic sequence number and photographer's name are printed on the bottom of the recto, "18884-4x; Davis B. Hillmer."
