Print. Black and white photographic print of an exhibit about the United States Navy Mail Service at the J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. Naval flags are methodically hung from the ceiling; postal equipment including mail sorters, and a Recordak are featured in the foreground. Exhibit signage discusses how mail is disbursed to troops on both fronts, and the mistakes one should not make on their V-Mail. Signage adjacent to a mail delivery map reads, "Facts! The Navy Mail Service delivers mail to bluejackets, marines, coast guardsmen, and merchant seamen wherever they may be throughout the world. At Fleet Post Offices, San Francisco and New York over 99,000,000 pieces of mail are handled monthly... Since its inauguration in 1943, Navy V-Mail stations have processed well over 100 million V-Mail letters... Assigned to the task of handling mail are over 15,000 mail specialists, of these, 1,070 are Waves.... Mail that goes by surface travels in a convoy that has an average speed of 1,500 miles per week." The date, photographic sequence number, and photographer's name are printed on the recto, "2-15-45; 22040-5x; Davis B. Hillmer."
