Print. Black and white photographic print of an interior display at the J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. Items featured in the display include a desk, rocking chair, fireplace, a composite portrait of Hudson Employees in 1889, a photograph of the department store on Woodward Avenue, a series of signature, and a portrait of Hudson. Also, affixed to the wall are two ceremonial groundbreaking shovels for the Northland and Eastland Centers. A small frame with key rests against the foot of the rocking chair and reads, "The First Hudson Key, This key unlocked the door of Mr. J.L Hudson's first store located in the Detroit Opera House, opposite City Hall. It was provided to Mr. R.H. Webber, by William Brehmer, Mr. Hudson's first office boy and The J.L. Hudson Company's oldest employee, with exception Mr. W. A. Petzeld, Secretary and Treasurer." Also, signage placed on an easel in the right foreground reads, "HUDSONIA, 75 Years of Looking Ahead... from Joseph Lothian Hudson's own desk and clock, to the shovels that broke ground for Hudson's Northland and Hudson's Eastland. Memorabilia that marks the progress of a great store in a dynamic city." The date, photographic sequence number, company name and photographer's name are printed on the bottom of the recto, "4-12-56; 27162-8x; The J.L. Hudson Company, Photography by Davis B. Hillmer."
