Print. Black and white photographic print of the Cavalcade of Fashion window display at The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store commemorating the 250th anniversary of the city of Detroit and Hudson's 70th year of business. Four female mannequins are dressed in period clothing circa 1882, 1886, and 1878. A mural behind the ladies features a steam locomotive leaving a small town. Signage in the foreground reads, "Cavalcade of Fashion Through 250 Years, Again, fashions swerved to the very ornamental. The news in styles of this era was the bustle. Fine dressers in colorful silks and satins, heavily padded were the rage. By now, Detroit was known as the 'gateway to the West,' and frontiers were being pushed ever westward by train, stage and prairie schooner." The date and photographic sequence number are printed on the bottom of the recto, "7-10-51; 25243-14x."
