One framed black and white photograph of the tugboat, Gladiator, of the Dunbar & Sullivan Dredging Company. The photo shows a starboard side view of the steam-powered tugboat which is underway slowly in fair weather on a river (probably the St. Mary's River near Sault Ste. Marie). A shoreline and barge are visible in the background. A photocopy of a handwritten letter is mounted beneath the photo and reads as follows: "Mr. Tom Goode: This picture was taken in 1928 down by the Hen and Chickens in the Soo River [St. Mary's River?, Sault Ste. Marie]. This was the first tug I worked on, Capt. Jess Penney, Archie Scott, Sol Kokko and myself. This first Gladiator was 60 years old when this was taken and was condemned to go out on the lakes but got a permit the next year 1929 to take her to Duluth to be rebuilt. She had a box boiler and burned wood at one time. The engine was a hook motion, no links. The firemen got $6.25 a day then. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. Sincerely yours, Bill Lackey." The photo has a wide gray matte border with a narrow black matte inner borders and is mounted in a black wood frame along with protective glass.
