Black and white photo of the Chicago, Duluth, and Georgian Bay Transit Company passenger steamer SOUTH AMERICAN, docked at along Detroit's riverfront, as taken from the Detroit River off of the ship's starboard side. The Detroit and Windsor Ferry Company dock, and White Star Line dock (beneath the "Tashmoo" sign) are visible just to the west of the SOUTH AMERICAN. The Vernor's Factory, Buhl Building, Guardian Building, Book Tower, David Stott Building, and The First National Building are visible along the city's skyline. The photo has beveled edges. "MAR 58," is printed in the center of the top border. "S.S. 'South American' Chicago, Duluth and Georgian Bay Transit Co. at Detroit," and "Aug. 25, 1940" are handwritten and "Photo by B.H. Nichols Neg. No. 273," is stamped on the verso.
