Sepia-toned photo taken of the Detroit Institute of Arts from the Belcrest Hotel facing southeast. The Hotel Park Shelton stands on the left on the corner of Woodward Avenue and East Kirby Street. The building which would later be incorporated into the Detroit Historical Museum as its Service Building stands at the center of the bottom of the frame. The Kirby apartment building stands on West Kirby Street at the lower right. "Art Museum, Detroit '28," is handwritten in white in the lower right corner of the image, and a typewritten caption reading, "Detroit, MI; 1928: Detroit Institute of Art on Woodward Avenue," has been pasted on the photo's bottom border.
