Print. Black and white photographic print of a window display at The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. A nurse stands to the right of the Florence Nightingale Pledge and administers the pledge to her student on the right. Two other students wait in line for their turn to take the pledge which reads, "I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care." Also, signage below the pledge reads, "May 12th, National Hospital Day, Commemorating the Memory of Florence Nightingale; The Ceremonial of Capping - The Experience of Receiving One's Cap is a Distinctive Event In the Life of A Nurse." A second Hospital Day poster is also visible in the bottom right corner. The date, photographic sequence number, and photographer's name are printed on the bottom of the recto, "5-10-41; 18436; Davis B. Hillmer."
