Print. (2 Copies.) Black and white photographic print of a window display for Red Cross at The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. A large sign is displayed through the entirety of the window and features, a soldier, his wife and young child being speaking with a Home Service Care Nurse with the Red Cross. The small notation in the upper right corner of the sign reads, "During 1946, an average of 6,753 cases per month were acted upon by the Home Service Division of the Detroit Chapter, American Red Cross. By far, the greatest number of these cases concern service men, veterans or their dependents. Approximately, 70% of the 1947, Detroit Chapter Red Cross Budget will be devoted to the continuance of this type of service." Also, the Red Cross sign at the center of the display reads, "Displaying the same willingness with which it accompanied our Detroit fighting men overseas, the Red Cross has come home with them, like an old friend, to their own home town. For the end of the war did not end the obligations of the Red Cross to our servicemen. The readjustment of many thousands to civilian life has been difficult, plagued with perplexing problems. The postwar program of the Red Cross is helping to ease these problems. Helping to bring the tranquility and happiness they fought for, into the lives of our down Detroit fighting men. Now the Red Cross comes to you - seeking your help that it may carry on its work. The Red Cross deserves your support Give and Give Generously!" Printed on the bottom of the recto are the date, photographic sequence number, and photographer's name, "3-18-47; 22780-x; Davis B. Hillmer."
