Black and white photographic print of the excavation of Fort Lernoult; Dr. Arnold Pilling of Wayne State University discusses the cross beam with Raymond T. Perring, President of Detroit Bank and Trust Company. Typed on the verso, "Hand-hewn posts and cross beam are among the artifacts from old Fort Lernoult excavated by Wayne State University archeologists in the shadow of the new Detroit Bank & Trust building being erected in downtown Detroit. The Detroit Bank & Trust Company, principal occupant of the building, and Sam Minskoff & Sons, the builder-owner, are underwriting the explorations under the direction of Dr. Arnold Pilling of the University. Dr. Pilling (left) discusses the construction of the cross-beam with Raymond T. Perring, president of the bank. Dr. Pilling has marked off the various strata's of earth and debris that covered the remains. Fort Lernoult was built by the British in 1779 and surrendered to American forces after the Revolutionary War."
