Black and white photographic print of the historic plaque dedication marking the site of Detroit's first public high school; a gentleman standing on a staircase holds the chord and has unveiled the plaque; the ornamental curtain is visible on the left and right sides of the plaque; two gentlemen look on. The plaque is affixed to a bricked building and reads, "This tablet marks the site of Detroit's first public high school; On this site used continuously since 1844 for educational purposes. The Board of Education of the city of Detroit opened its first high school on August 30, 1856, in what was the Miami Avenue School. Henry Chaney was the first Principal. Presented in Detroit's High School Center by the J.L. Hudson Company, Under the Auspices of the Detroit Historical Society."
