Mounted sepia-toned photograph of a man, presumably stone mason Herman Menz, posed in an outdoor studio space with his devil statue carved with George Michel. The statue was controversially installed outside of Menz's house on Stanton Avenue above the inscription "Homo non est creatio, sed evolutio. Deus non fecit hominem, sed homo fecit deos," (Man was not created, he evolved. God did not make man, man made the gods). "Herman Mentz [sic], "Mentz's devil" (carved by George Michel)," is handwritten on the verso.
