Black and white photograph of the tablet placed at the Merrill-Palmer School in memory of Lizzie Merrill Palmer, 1837-1916. Written on the tablet below her name, "I hold profoundly the conviction that the welfare of any community is divinely, and hence inseparably, dependent upon the quality of its motherhood, and the spirit and character of its homes." The Merrill family coat of arms, with the motto, "Qui Vincit Patitur," appears in the center of the plaque. Reliefs of adults surrounded by children are in the lower corners of the plaque. "1927," is handwritten on the verso.
