One sepia-toned photograph of the parochial school class of St. James Lutheran Church in Detroit. The photo is mounted on gray matte board and shows four rows of children who are seated or standing along the side of the church building. A stars and stripes banner is attached to the side of the church in the background with the ends stretched downward at the sides of the group. Pastor Rev. August G. Bergener is standing at the center. A small blackboard is located on the ground at the center front and shows five words in handwritten German text (illegible) along with the year, "1901." The white frame church building, located near the southwest corner of Humboldt and Poplar Streets, is visible in the background.
