One black and white photograph (and one copy) of construction work that is underway for the new Civic Center redevelopment project near Ford Auditorium in downtown Detroit. The view looks southeastward and shows a large area of excavation in the foreground along with a pile driver that is being operated by a steam boiler and engine (manufactured by Murray Iron Works Company of Burlington, Iowa). Pipe sections, equipment, construction debris, and workmen can be seen in the surrounding project area. Commercial buildings, The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel entrance, and Robin Hood Flour factory can be seen n the left and center background. The Detroit River, Windsor shoreline, and east end of the Henry & Edsel Ford Memorial Auditorium can be seen in the right background.
