One black and white photograph showing a well drilling rig parked on the snow-covered shoreline at Point La Barbe near St. Ignace, Michigan. The rig was manufactured by "Bucyrus Erie" and was owned by the "Straits Water Well Company" of St. Ignace. The rig was hired by the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation for preparatory work for the Lakehead Pipeline crossing of the Straits of Mackinac. Handwritten pencil text on the verso reads "379-25, ML-3801, Setting up for well hole #1." An adjacent black ink date stamp shows "Feb. 17, 1953."
