One black and white photograph of the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation construction staging area for the Lakehead Pipeline crossing of the Straits of Mackinac. The photo shows long sections of steel pipelines lying on the ground. Large steel floats have been lashed to one of the pipelines to facilitate the placement operations when it is pulled into Lake Michigan. A small crane can be seen in the foreground. A supply shed and evergreen trees can be seen in the background. A black ink stamp on the verso reads "Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corp. Photo." Handwritten pencil text shows the date, "Aug. 8 [1953]." The staging area was located west of St. Ignace, Michigan.
