One black and white photograph of the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation construction staging area for the Lakehead Pipeline crossing of the Straits of Mackinac. The photo shows long sections of steel pipelines lying on the ground. Large steel floats have been lashed to the pipeline at the center of the photo which will help to facilitate its placement when it is pulled into Lake Michigan. A canvas structure, a small crane, and several workmen can be seen in the foreground. Black ink stamps on the verso read "Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corp. Photo," and "Aug. 11, 1953." The staging area was located west of St. Ignace, Michigan.
