One black and white photograph of the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation construction staging area for the Lakehead Pipeline crossing of the Straits of Mackinac. The photo shows a section of steel pipeline that is being pulled into Lake Michigan. Large steel floats have been lashed to the top of the pipeline along with marker buoys which will help to facilitate its placement when it is pulled out into the water. A canvas structure, two cranes, equipment, and several workmen can be seen in the foreground. Black ink stamps on the verso read "Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corp. Photo," and "Aug. 11, 1953." The staging area was located west of St. Ignace, Michigan.
