One black and white photograph of the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation construction staging area for the Lakehead Pipeline crossing of the Straits of Mackinac. The photo shows a long section of steel pipeline which is resting on a cradle with rollers at the shoreline and is ready for pulling into Lake Michigan. The end of the pipeline is resting on a floating cradle and has a large steel float attached to the top. A cable is attached to the pipe end. In the left background, a "Control Tower" building can be seen on shore. Evergreen trees and a rip rap breakwater are visible in the center and right background. Black ink stamps on the verso read "Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corp. Photo," and "Sep. 17, 1953." The staging area was located west of St. Ignace, Michigan, at Pointe La Barbe.
