One black and white photograph of the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation construction staging area for the Lakehead Pipeline crossing of the Straits of Mackinac. The photo shows a section of steel pipeline which is resting on a floating cradle that is tied to the shore. The end of the pipeline has steel floats lashed to the top along with marking buoys and is being pulled slowly out toward Lake Michigan. A small barge, rip rap breakwater, and tugboat are visible in the left background. A rowboat and part of a dock can be seen at the right side of the photo and Lake Michigan is visible in the far background. Black ink stamps on the verso read "Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corp. Photo," and "Sep. 17, 1953." The staging area was located west of St. Ignace, Michigan, at Pointe La Barbe.
