One black and white photograph of the Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corporation construction staging area for the Lakehead Pipeline crossing of the Straits of Mackinac. The aerial photo shows Pointe La Barbe and the Lake Michigan shoreline in the foreground with cleared areas on shore where long sections of steel pipelines are resting on the ground. Parked cars, buildings, and equipment storage areas are also visible. Large areas of evergreen forests can be seen in the background. A typewritten label along the upper edge of the photo reads "The Deep Inch, Straits of Mackinac, Michigan, 1953. Twin 42,00 ft. of 20" steel pipe pulled across this open water from shore to shore, broke all records for the longest and deepest (252 ft.) constructed. A Dunbar & Sullivan Dredging Company business card for Alfred Siskind is taped at the lower right corner. The staging area was located west of St. Ignace, Michigan, at Pointe La Barbe.
