One black and white photograph of Red Cross volunteers who are filling Christmas gift bags with chocolates and other small items. Boxes of small packaged items can be seen on a table in the foreground. Three older women, who are wearing Red Cross uniforms, are standing behind the table and are placing the small packaged items into cloth drawstring bags along with a "Seasons Greetings" card. A typewritten note on the verso reads "Released by: Rackeline J. Hoff, Southeastern Michigan Chapter, American National Red Cross, 153 E. Elizabeth, Detroit, Michigan 48232. 961-3900," and "Red Cross Volunteers Are Santa's Helpers. Local Red Cross volunteers (left to right) Edna Terry, 6215 William Lake Rd., Drayton Plains, Armande Kitson, 20 N. Tilden, Pontiac, and Athena Ponushis, 180 E. Iroqouis Rd., Pontiac, happily add the last few items to the holiday gift bags that complete the Southeastern Mcihgan Chapter's 4,000 bag shipment. The ditty bags, as they are called, will now be sent to Vietnam where they will be presented to American servicemen at Christmas. This project, known as 'Shop Early,' is carried out annually by Red Cross chapters acros the country."
