Large black and white photograph of seven firefighters practicing to scale a ladder with a hose, set against the fire escape outside of the Detroit Fire Department Training Academy at West Warren Avenue and Lawton Street. Two men on the ground with hold poles to support the ladder, while three men climb the ladder with the hose draped over their shoulders. Two other men, also with the hose over their shoulder, wait near the foot of the ladder. Signs on the building's wall indicate both the height, as well as the length of a ladder needed to scale to that height. Two Detroit Fire Department cars are parked beside the building on the left.
