Print. Black and white photographic print of a window display which features a celebratory salute for the local libraries, at The J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. Four mannequins, adorned in late 19th century period clothing stand in front of an oversized etching of a church. Left of the mannequins is a female mannequin adorned in modern daywear, and standing behind a desk with a map notating the local Detroit libraries. Signage placed atop the desk reads, "If you desire a specific answer to you a question, music scores, maps, statistical data, advice on Continuing your education through reading, information on the choice of vocation, books in foreign languages, children's books and books for parents, technical books… Get Acquainted with Your Public Library!" Also, signage in the central foreground reads, "A Salute of Honor to the Detroit Public Library; For 75 Years of Valiant Service to Education and Culture." Images of the 24 libraries are featured on the right side of the display, and signage at the base reads, "Present Day Picture, Main Library, Downtown Library, 22 branches, bookmobile, figures for 1938-1939, Staff: 600. Size: 981.354 volumes. Circulation: 5,539,808 volumes. Number of Borrowers: 330,981. Net Funds Expended: $1,404,731.70." The photographic sequence number is printed on the bottom of the recto, "18189-A."
