A retail display at the top of the stairs features a sale on ladies aprons accompanied by a cash register. Available goods in the background include women's and children's gloves, hosiery, umbrellas and rainwear. Ladies dresses and housecoats are visible in the department at the foot of the stairs. The two floors are ornamented with signage which reads, "Buy Now! Hudson's 59th Anniversary Sale, Basement Store." The photographic sequence number, and photographer's name are printed on the bottom of the recto, "18297-2x; Davis B. Hillmer."
