Print, Photographic
Black and white photographic print depicting a man working with chemical ware at the Champion Spark Plug Co.
Caption on verso reads, "Placing chemical ware in saggers ready for firing in the Dressler kiln. Dept. 41. The stack of saggers at the left contains bisque ware. Note that ware is placed within saggers in the usual upright position. The rest of the saggers shown are being loaded with glost ware. Note that ware is placed on the bottom of inverted saggers. This makes it easier to load ware such as casseroles at the right, the handles of which must be propped up with a clay wad. The chief reason for placing glost ware this way is that is eliminates kiln dirt, particularly in open ware such as crucibles that are fired right side up. Ware on wooden boards is green, ready for first firing. Ware on metal tray is glost, ready for the second firing."
