Mounted black and white photo of the aerial apparatuses of the Detroit Fire Department's Ladder Companies No.1 and No.3 being used to fight a fire at the Goldberg Brothers' department store on the west side of Woodward Avenue between Grand River and Clifford Street, as viewed from across the street to the northeast. Firefighters work amid broken windows and display cases along the base of the building. A large clearance banner and a "Store for rent" sign are posted on the Grinnell Brothers' Music House next door to Goldberg Brothers. Clough and Warren Company, Pianos; Wood's Ladies Haus; and the William B. Elliott Company are also posted along the block. Several bystanders are also in frame. The photo is mounted on black matte board, with a border relief around the image. "Fred G. Wright, Detroit, Mich. 115 Gratiot Ave. Phone MAIN 5488," is stamped on the verso. A lengthy handwritten note listing involved firefighters is also on the verso:
