Print, Photographic

Black and white photographic print mounted on fabric depicting clay storage at the Champion Spark Plug Co.
Caption reads: Photograph 9
Storage and Aging Cellar, in which the filter-pressed body is held until used for production.
Different "batches" or lots of body are kept separate, and none is released for production until a preliminary run and test of the material have been made in the Process Laboratory. Each batch is kept as separate clear thru to final inspection.
The storage process is also called "ageing" as the damp, clay-like material, when kept in the dark for a week or so, undergoes some reaction which develops increased plasticity and makes the body more easily processed.
