Fuchsine Dye Penetration apparatus for testing porcelains under pressure up to 15,000 pounds per square inch. A properly burned porcelain must be vitreous and non-porous. Porosity is determined by using fuchsine (red dye) dissolved in alcohol, and placing fragments of the broken porcelain in this mixture to see if any of the liquid will be absorbed by the porcelain. Absorption means the porcelain is porous and of no value. The test is more severe at increased pressures.
