Mounted sepia-toned photograph of a group posed alongside a Detroit, Lansing and Northern Railroad train, bound from a Detroit train station--likely Fort Street Union Depot--for Hazen S. Pingree's gubernatorial inauguration in Lansing. The train is decorated with banners and signs celebrating Hazen S. Pingree and his political allies. A sign on the front of the locomotive reads, "Pingree and His Two Favorite Lieutenants," above a trio of portraits showing Pingree, as well as Wayne County Treasurer Alexander I. McLeod, and acting mayor of Detroit Robert S. Oakman, captioned as "Alex" and "Bob." The group posed beside the trail consists of 16 men, one women (possibly Mamie Moross Oakman), and a young boy and girl. Several members of the group hold flags, and a man at the far end holds a banjo. "Mrs. Oakman," is handwritten along the bottom edge of the matting. An Alvord and Company stamp is on the verso.
