Mounted sepia-toned photo of the exterior of the portals to the Michigan Central Railway Tunnel taken during its construction. "Detroit River Tunnel 1909" is engraved in the concrete above the entrances. A steam-driven pump is on the platform between the portals, and wooden forms are in place around the top of the tunnel entrances. A man stands atop the entrance. The photo is mounted on grey cardstock. "J.H. Perine, 1069 John R. St., Detroit," is handwritten on the verso.
