Mounted sepia-toned photographic print of the Belle Isle canals being dug by previously unemployed men. The majority of the workers dig with shovels. A horse-drawn cart is being used to aid in the project as well. Tents are set up in the background. Coats are hung from trees overlooking the canal. "Belle Isle, 1906-7 Unemployed used to dig canal to give work," is handwritten on the verso.
