Print, Photographic

Sepia-toned photo of the exterior of the Gratiot Avenue faces of the Crowley Milner's department store as viewed from the east from a window in Hudson's, overlooking the Downtown Library, taken from a photo album of air conditioning installations done by the Detroit Ice Machine Company in 1937. Both the east and main buildings of the Crowley, Milner and Company Department Store complex are in view. Window displays of hats, shoes, hosiery, and coats are set up along the Gratiot side of the main building. A street vendor and cart are on the north side of Gratiot near the lower left corner of the image. "M-2019," is printed in the lower right corner of the photo, corresponding to the description "950 Tons Air Conditioning," on the table of contents page (2008.039.003). The photo is mounted on a linen photo album page with a flap on the left hand side with three holes for binding.
