Sepia-toned photograph of the People's Savings Bank, located within the Telephone Block at the intersection of Griswold and Congress. Pedestrians are visible on the neighboring sidewalks; also horse carriages are parked along the thoroughfare. Other commercial businesses are within the Telephone Block include Western Union Telegraph and Carley Parkers. Typed on the verso, "The Telegraph Block, which stood on the south-east corner of Griswold and Congress streets, on the site now occupied by the Union Trust Building. Detroit's first telephone exchange was opened in the basement of this building, August 1878." Also, stamped on the verso, "Michigan Bell Telephone Co. Advertising and News Department Photograph."
