Print, Photographic
Sepia-toned copy of a photographic print mounted on heavy cardstock, and a slightly cropped black and white copy. Images depict a view eastward along Michigan Avenue, from just west of Shelby Street, capturing both the 1871 City Hall and the previous 1835 City Hall across Campus Martius. Along the south side of Michigan are several storefronts, including the Great Western Hoop Skirt Factory; P. Blake, Furniture Ware-Rooms; and Little John Auction Rooms. A sign advertising "Seeds" is visible on the opposite side of Michigan, closer to Campus Martius. A wagon is parked on the south side of the street, and debris is visible along the northern curb. The road is paved with cobblestones. "Old city halls from Michigan Ave. c.1871" handwritten on verso. Black and white copy is cropped to omit the buildings on the north side of Michigan.
