Aerial view of downtown Detroit and river front facing toward the northeast. Handwritten notes on verso date the image to circa 1927-8 as the Penobscot Building is near completion, as well as suggest that four Detroit and Cleveland Navigation Company steamers in addition to the whaleback Christopher Columbus are visible at dock. "Picture #82. Picture shows downtown Detroit." is typed on the verso along with the handwritten note, "Penobscot Bldg almost finished c. 1927-28. 4 D&C steamers, pos. CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS at docks."
