A Michigan Avenue streetcar approaches from the east, with several other streetcars behind it. Cars are parked perpendicular to the curbs along Monroe, and numerous pedestrians are out. The Chinese Republic Restaurant, and the Newark Shoe Shop are in the Second Williams Block. The Berghoff Cafe and the Cafe Frontenac are in the First Williams Block. The Columbia Theatre shares its building with the Frank and Steinburg Loan Office. and the State Loan Office. J.E. Nederlander's loan office is in the Johnson Block. Further east on the block are the Casino Theatre, L.R. Grosslight's pawn shop, the Chinese National Restaurant, the United Cigar Stores Company, and the National Theatre, topped with a clown-shaped sign. To the west of the National Theatre, the cupola of the Hilsendegen Block is visible. The Odd Fellows Building and the Hotel Ste. Claire stand in the distance on the left, where Monroe curves beyond Randolph Street.
